Held a class at an elementary school in Shimonoseki to teach the importance of “marine transportation”

As one of the community contribution activities, JRCS held a 45-miniute classroom at an elementary school in Shimonoseki City.

This time we visited the 3rd and 4th grade classes of Uka Elementary School in Shimonoseki, which is located nearby Toyoura Office. The theme was “Marine Transportation”. To make it simple for the children to understand, we asked the question, “What would happen if there were no ships left?”

Although the content was challenging, such as food self-sufficiency, logistics, and ship power, we tried to make it fun to learn by using videos, models, and world maps. At the end of the class, we received comments such as, “If ships disappear, I won’t be able to eat my favorite bananas”, “I now understand how ships work”, and “I want to know more about ships”.

We will continue activities to teach children about the importance of ships and marine transportation, and to foster pride and attachment to their hometowns.

The children took the class with sparkling eyes!
