The Kangei Maru, the world’s only whaling mother ship departed Shimonoseki!
The world’s only whaling mother ship, the Kangei Maru, has entered its second year of operation and has departed for its first fishing trip of this season.
At the departure ceremony held at the home port in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Hideki Tokoro, the CEO of Kyodo Senpaku Co., LTD., encouraged the crew members, saying “This is the first time we will take fin whales in the Sea of Okhotsk. I hope everyone will work together to catch a good whale and return safely.”
The Kangei Maru is equipped with a complete set of electrical equipment manufactured by JRCS, including a switchboard and an engine control console. We feel very honored that our manufacturing supports Japan’s traditional food culture, but we also feel a heavy responsibility. We wish the whaling team a safe return to port and will continue to make further efforts to support the safe operation of this vessel.
