JRCS Receives the MEXT “E-Taiken Award” Encouragement Prize
JRCS has been awarded the Encouragement Prize in the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises category of the “E-Taiken Award (Award for Companies Promoting Youth Experience Activities)”, organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). This award recognizes nonprofit experiential programs for children conducted by companies and highlights outstanding initiatives nationwide.
Our maritime education program for upper-grade elementary school students in Shimonoseki, titled “What Would Happen If Ships Disappeared?”, was highly praised and led to this achievement.
On January 20, JRCS attended the award ceremony held at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center in Shibuya, Tokyo. The event brought together award-winning companies from across the country, where each organization’s initiatives were introduced. JRCS’s activities were also featured as a valuable, community-based learning opportunity for local students.
Japan relies on maritime transport for 99.5 percent of its trade. This award recognizes the significant social value of our efforts to teach children about the importance of marine logistics and the vital role that ships play in our daily lives. Conducting this program in Shimonoseki – a city surrounded on three sides by the sea and historically developed through maritime activity – makes the learning experience even more meaningful. The local setting allows children to better understand the connection between their own lives and the ocean, deepening their learning.
Encouraged by this award, JRCS will continue providing opportunities for future generations to learn about the ocean, ships, and the work that JRCS carries out.
